Dr. Pattanayak holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Utkal University, Odish, India, and a Master of Science in Metallurgical Engineering and Doctorate in Physical Metallurgy from Technical University, Berlin, Germany. Dr. Pattanayak also has a diploma in Welding Engineering. He completed his Dissertation Thesis on “Modification of Al-Si eutectic alloys by addition of different elements and its influence on solidification form of silicon and the interfacial characteristics.”.

Dr. Pattanayak is a member of American Society of Materials International (ASM) and International Metallographic Society (IMS). He is also an Adjunct Professor at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).

Dr. Pattanayak specializes in failure analysis, characterization of alloys, metal matrix composites, electronic material, welding and soldering material; operating Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscope (EDS).

Dr. Pattanayak’s professional experience includes failure analysis and laboratory examination of industrial machinery elements, vehicular components, tooling and equipment employing scanning electron microscopy (SEM), optical microscopy, x-ray diffraction, energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), x-ray analysis, etc. and alloy development, corrosion studies, industrial trouble-shooting.
